Andrews, Women's 4x100 Relay Earn All-New England Honors at NEICAAA Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Graduate student Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) garnered All-New England honors in both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles to lead the Bridgewater State University women's track & field team on Saturday at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Bryant University.

Andrews placed fifth in the finals of the 400 hurdles with a season-best time of 1:02.25. She also finished seventh in the finals of the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.41 seconds. Andrews was the top Division III student-athlete in each event.

The BSU foursome of juniors Madison Ashley (Freetown, Mass.), Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.), Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) and freshman Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Msss.) place eighth and earned All-New England honors in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 48.26 seconds.

The Bears placed 18th in the team standings at the meet with 15.25 points. UMass Amherst won the meet title with 74.75 points, followed by URI (61 pts.) and Quinnipiac (54 pts.). WPI was the top Division III school in the standings as the Engineers finished in fifth place with 46 points.

Several members of the BSU track and field teams will compete on Thursday at the MIT Final Qualifier.
