Seven Bears Garner USTFCCCA All-New England Honors

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University track and field programs saw seven athletes garner Division III All-New England honors as the U.S. Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) handed out its awards for the 2019 indoor season.

The top five individuals in each event earned All-New England distinction, in addition to each of the members of the region’s top three relay teams.

On the women’s side, senior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) earned All-New England accolades in the 60-meter hurdles, while classmate Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) was recognized for her performance in the shot put.

Andrews will compete at the upcoming NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Champions as she is seeded second in the hurdles.

For the men’s team, the Bears’ quartet of Juniors Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.), Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.), and sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) brought home All-New England honors in the 4x400-meter relay, while sophomore DeAndre Thomas (Montgomery, N.J.) garnered the distinction for his performance in the triple jump.
