BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Jenise Madden has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.
A native of Milford, Massachusetts, Madden was the first runner to cross the finish line in the 10,000-meter run at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational this past weekend as she posted a time of 38:46.61.
Madden qualified her for both the Division III New England Championships and the NEICAAA Championships in the 10,000 and currently ranks sixth in all of Division III in the event in the 10,000.
This past winter, Madden was the MASCAC indoor champion in both the mile and the 3,000-meter run. She also earned Division III All-New England and All-NEICAAA honors in the 5,000-meter run.
Madden has also excelled on the cross country trails for the Bears over the last three fall seasons. She was a two-time MASCAC Runner of The Week and All-New England selection in 2018, and is also a three-time All-MASCAC honoree (2016, 2017, 2018). As a rookie in 2016, she earned MASCAC Rookie of The Week accolades six-times and was named the conference Rookie of The Year.
The outdoor season continues for Madden and the BSU women's track & field team on Saturday, March 30th as the Bears compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
