Kira Gilbreath Named MASCAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior Kira Gilbreath has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. GEICO is a proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

A native of West Haven, Utah, Gilbreath placed fourth in the shot put (first among DIII student-athletes) at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational with a toss of 41 feet, 2.25 inches (12.55m).

Gilbreath qualified for both the Division III New England Championships and the NEICAAA Championships in the shot put and currently ranks eighth in all of Division III in the event.

The MASCAC weekly honor marks the ninth of Gilbreath’s career including two outdoor distinctions. She was a two-time MASCAC champion in the shot put in 2017-2018, as well as the conference title holder in the weight throw (indoor) and hammer throw (outdoor). This past February at the 2019 MASCAC Indoor Championships, Gilbreath successfully defended her shot put title.

Gilbreath captured the New England crown in the shot put at the Division III New England Outdoor Championships last spring and qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the event. She also earned USTFCCCA All-New England honors in the shot put for both the 2017-2018 indoor and outdoor seasons as well as the 2019 indoor campaign.

The outdoor season continues for Gilbreath and the BSU women's track & field team on Saturday, March 30th as the Bears compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
