Kira Gilbreath Named MASCAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the third straight week, Bridgewater State University senior Kira Gilbreath has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. GEICO is a proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Gilbreath captured top honors in the shot put this past weekend at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University. The West Haven, Utah product recorded a season-best toss of 43 feet, 4.5 inches (13.22m) as she currently ranks 15th in all of Division III in the event.

The MASCAC weekly honor marks the 11th of Gilbreath’s career including four outdoor distinctions. She was a two-time MASCAC champion in the shot put in 2017-2018, as well as the conference title holder in the weight throw (indoor) and hammer throw (outdoor). This past February at the 2019 MASCAC Indoor Championships, Gilbreath successfully defended her shot put title.

Gilbreath captured the New England crown in the shot put at the Division III New England Outdoor Championships last spring and qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the event. She also earned USTFCCCA All-New England honors in the shot put for both the 2017-2018 indoor and outdoor seasons as well as the 2019 indoor campaign.

Gilbreath and the BSU women's outdoor track & field team will compete on Saturday at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University. A few of the Bears' distance runners will compete on Friday at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.
