Kira Gilbreath Named MASCAC Women's Indoor Field Athlete of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior Kira Gilbreath has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. GEICO is a proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

A native of West Haven, Utah, Gilbreath captured top honors in the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, 2.25 inches (12.55m) and placed sixth in the weight throw (43'9.75"/13.35m) at the RIC Invitational this past weekend. She qualified for the Division III New England Championships in both events as well as the NEICAAA Championships in the shot put.

Gilbreath currently ranks tenth in all of Division III in the shot put and second among Division III New England student-athletes.

Gilbreath is coming off an impressive first year with the BSU women's indoor and outdoor track team. She garnered the MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week award four times in 2017-2018 (three indoor, one outdoor), and was a two-time MASCAC champion in the shot put, as well as the conference title holder in the weight throw (indoor) and hammer throw (outdoor).

Gilbreath captured the New England crown in the shot put at the Division III New England Outdoor Championships last spring and qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the event. She also earned USTFCCCA All-New England honors in the shot put for both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

The BSU women's indoor track & field team is off until Saturday, January 12th when the Bears compete at the Tufts Invitational.
