Jayci Andrews Named MASCAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Jayci Andrews has been selected as both the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women's Indoor Track and Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Andrews captured top honors in the 60-meter hurdles at the Wheaton Invitational this past weekend as she posted a finals time of 8.89 seconds. In the preliminaries, Andrews equaled her own school indoor record with a time of 8.86 seconds.

A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Andrews also placed first and qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, four inches (5.28m).

Andrews currently ranks fourth in all of Division III in the 60-meter hurdles. She is also second among Division III New England student-athletes in the hurdles and fourth in the long jump.

The pair of MASCAC Athlete of the Week awards marks the third and fourth of the season for Andrews (three track, one field) who has earned the honor an impressive 23 times during her career including 15 indoor distinctions.

Andrews currently holds nine individual school records at Bridgewater State (along with three relay marks). She is the Bears' indoor record holder in the 55-meter hurdles (8.50), 60-meter hurdles (8.86), long jump (17'6.75"), 200-meter dash (26.37) and 400-meter dash (57.14), as well as the outdoor record holder in the 100-meter hurdles (14.14), 400-meter hurdles (1:01.37), 400-meter dash (55.76) and the long jump (17'8.75").

A four-time NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships participant, Andrews garnered All-American accolades with a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2018 outdoor championships. She also finished 13th in the 400-meter hurdles at the meet. Last March, Andrews finished 17th in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2018 indoor championships. As a freshman in 2016, she placed 11th in the 400-meter dash at the indoor championships and tenth in the 400 at the outdoor championships.

The indoor season for Andrews and the BSU women's track & field team continues on Saturday at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational hosted by Tufts University.
