Jayci Andrews Named MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fifth straight week and sixth time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Jayci Andrews has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

The MASCAC Athlete of the Week honor marks the 33rd of Andrews' career including 14 outdoor distinctions.

Andrews broke her won school record and garnered All-NEICAAA honors in the 100-meter hurdles this past weekend at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Southern Connecticut State University. The Plymouth, Massachusetts product posted a finals and DIII-leading time of 13.86 seconds to place fourth in the event (first among DIII student-athletes). She eclipsed her previous BSU mark of 14.02 seconds set ten days ago at the Division III New England Championships.

Andrews, who also ran a leg on the Bears’ 4x100-meter relay (49.69, 14th) at the NEICAAA Championships, currently ranks first in all of Division III in the 100 hurdles and seventh in the 400-meter hurdles.

This past March, Andrews became the second NCAA national champion in Bridgewater State history as she captured the national title in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2019 Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Center. Andrews also garnered All-American accolades last spring with a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Andrews presently holds nine individual school records at Bridgewater State (along with three relay marks). She is the Bears indoor record holder in the 55-meter hurdles (8.50), 60-meter hurdles (8.68), long jump (17'6.75"), 200-meter dash (26.37) and 400-meter dash (57.14), as well as the outdoor record holder in the 100-meter hurdles (13.86), 400-meter hurdles (1:01.37), 400-meter dash (55.76) and long jump (17'8.75").

Andrews and classmate Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) will compete at the MIT Final Qualifier of Thursday with the meet getting underway at approximately 5:00 PM.
