Jayci Andrews Named MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fourth straight week and fifth time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Jayci Andrews has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

The MASCAC Athlete of the Week honor marks the 32nd of Andrews' career including 13 outdoor distinctions.

Andrews captured the New England title in both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Williams College this past weekend. The Plymouth, Massachusetts product placed first in the finals of the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.07 records and won the 400 hurdles with a season-best time of 1:01.58.

Andrews also broke her owns school record in the preliminaries of the 100 hurdles with a DIII-leading time of 14.02 seconds as she eclipsed her previous mark of 14.14 seconds set last season at the NCAA Division III Championships.

Along with her #1 ranking in the 100 hurdles, Andrews is also sixth in all of Division III in the 400 hurdles.

This past March, Andrews became the second NCAA national champion in Bridgewater State history as she captured the national title in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2019 Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Center. Andrews also garnered All-American accolades last spring with a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Andrews presently holds nine individual school records at Bridgewater State (along with three relay marks). She is the Bears indoor record holder in the 55-meter hurdles (8.50), 60-meter hurdles (8.68), long jump (17'6.75"), 200-meter dash (26.37) and 400-meter dash (57.14), as well as the outdoor record holder in the 100-meter hurdles (14.02), 400-meter hurdles (1:01.37), 400-meter dash (55.76) and long jump (17'8.75").

The outdoor season continues for the BSU women's track & field team on Friday and Saturday as qualifying members will compete at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
