Jayci Andrews Named MASCAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third straight week and seventh time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Jayci Andrews has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Andrews captured the national title in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Center this past weekend. The Plymouth, Massachusetts product posted a winning and school-record time of 8.68 seconds in the finals on Saturday afternoon as she edged junior and top-seed Favor Ezewuzie of Wheaton College (Ill.) and sophomore Caira Watson-Haynes of Washington University. Ezewuzie (8.69) and Watson-Haynes (8.69) placed second and third, respectively.

Andrews, who broke her previous school mark of 8.70 seconds recorded at Friday's preliminaries, became the second NCAA national champion in BSU history as she joined former men's track & field standout Chris Perry. Perry captured the national championship in the triple jump at the 2015 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The MASCAC Athlete of the Week honor marks the 27th of Andrews' career including 19 indoor distinctions.

Andrews currently holds nine individual school records at Bridgewater State (along with three relay marks). She is the Bears indoor record holder in the 55-meter hurdles (8.50), 60-meter hurdles (8.68), long jump (17'6.75"), 200-meter dash (26.37) and 400-meter dash (57.14), as well as the outdoor record holder in the 100-meter hurdles (14.14), 400-meter hurdles (1:01.37), 400-meter dash (55.76) and long jump (17'8.75").
