Jayci Andrews Named MASCAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fourth time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Jayci Andrews has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Andrews broke her own school record (twice) and garnered All-New England honors with a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles this past weekend at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Andrews posted a preliminary time of 8.82 seconds in the hurdles to break her previous school mark of 8.86 seconds and advance to the semifinals. After recording a semifinal time of 8.90 seconds, she notched a finals time of 8.80 seconds to re-break her own record.

The only Division III student-athlete to compete in the event at the championships meet, Andrews currently ranks second in all of Division III in the hurdles and first among Division III New England student-athletes. She is also ninth in New England in the long jump.

The MASCAC Athlete of the Week honor marks the 24th of Andrews' career including 16 indoor distinctions.

Andrews currently holds nine individual school records at Bridgewater State (along with three relay marks). She is the Bears' indoor record holder in the 55-meter hurdles (8.50), 60-meter hurdles (8.80), long jump (17'6.75"), 200-meter dash (26.37) and 400-meter dash (57.14), as well as the outdoor record holder in the 100-meter hurdles (14.14), 400-meter hurdles (1:01.37), 400-meter dash (55.76) and the long jump (17'8.75").

A four-time NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships participant, Andrews garnered All-American accolades with a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2018 outdoor championships. She also finished 13th in the 400-meter hurdles at the meet. Last March, Andrews finished 17th in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2018 indoor championships. As a freshman in 2016, she placed 11th in the 400-meter dash at the indoor championships and tenth in the 400 at the outdoor championships.

Next weekend, the BSU indoor track & field teams will compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
