Women's Track & Field Competes at Jerry Gravel Classic

Westfield, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team earned five, first place finishes on Saturday at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University.

Senior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) captured top honors in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. She posted season-best times of 14.52 seconds in the 100 hurdles and 1:03.18 in the 400 hurdles.

Fellow senior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) earned a win for the Bears as she placed first in the shot put with a season-best toss of 44 feet, 1.5 inches (13.45m).

Andrews currently ranks ninth in all of Division III in the 100 hurdles and 14th in the 400 hurdles, while Gilbreath is 12th in the shot put.

Sophomore Jamelah Foster (Fall River, Mass.) and freshmen Katherine Vogel (Bronx, N.Y.) also added first place finishes in their events. Foster recorded a mark of 119 feet, 11 inches (36.55m) in the discus, while Vogel posted a time of 13:16.56 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Seniors Patricia Healion (Medford, Mass.) and Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.), and juniors Jessica Haywood (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Molly Dewar (Grafton, Mass.) each added second place performances for the Bears. Healion recorded a height of four feet, 11 inches (1.5m) in the high jump, while McNamara hit a mark of 34 feet, 2.25 inches (10.42m) in the triple jump. Haywood posted a time of 1:02.67 in the 400-meter dash, and Dewar tossed the hammer 143 feet, 3 inches (43.66m).

McNamara also earned third place for the Bears in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 10.5 inches (4.96m).

Dewar qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the hammer.

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay squad featuring Haywood, classmate Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.), and freshmen Amanda Ward (Manahawkin, N.J.) and Makenzie Kennedy (North Providence, R.I.) placed third in the event with a time of 4:47.47.

The Bears finished third in the team standings at the meet with 41 points. Utica College won the team title with 75 points, while Westfield State University finished second with 65 points.

The BSU women's outdoor track & field team will compete Friday at the 12th Annual Eastern Invitational hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University.
