Andrews, Gilbreath Lead Women's Track & Field at Corsair Classic

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Seniors Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) and Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) each won individual events to lead the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team on Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.

Andrews captured the meet title in the 100-meter with a time of 14.87 seconds, while Gilbreath garnered top honors in the shot put with a toss of 42 feet, six inches (12.95m). Gilbreath currently ranks 12th in all of Division III in the shot put, while Andrews is 13th in the hurdles. 

The Bears finished fifth in the team standings with 77 points. Division II Southern New Hampshire University won the team title with 136.5 points. Eastern Connecticut State University (108.5 pts.) and Springfield College (107.5 pts.) rounded out the top three squads.

Seniors Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.) and Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.) placed second (16'10.75"/5.15m) and fourth (16'3.25"/4.96m), respectively, in the long jump. Madeline McNamara also placed fifth in the triple jump (33'2.5"/10.12m), while Molly McNamara finished ninth in the long jump (32'0"/9.75m).

Andrews, Madeline McNamara, sophomore Sansha Alexis (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman Katherine Vogel (Bronx, N.Y.) placed fourth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:22.99.

Senior Emily Guyon (Hopedale, Mass.) was the second runner to cross the finish line in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as she posted a time of 12:37.92. Vogel added a fourth-place showing in the steeplechase (13:00.45).

The Bears had three of the top six hammer throwers at the meet. Junior Molly Dewar (Grafton, Mass.) placed third with a heave of 134 feet, four inches (40.96m), while sophomore Jamelah Foster (Fall River, Mass.) placed fifth (128'4"/39.11m) and sophomore Juliana Martin (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished sixth (125'2"/38.16m).

Foster also placed fifth in the discus throw with a toss of 109 feet (33.22m), while classmate Ashley Garvey (Woburn, Mass.) finished eighth in the discus (100'6"/30.64m). Junior Allison Beaudoin (Sturbridge, Mass.) posted a mark of 101 feet, eight inches (31.00m) in the javelin to finish ninth in the event.

Senior Patricia Healion (Medford, Mass.) and freshman Camille Hanna (Milton, Vt.) rounded out the Bears' top ten performers. Healion was tenth in the high jump (4'9"/1.45m), while Hanna finished tenth in the pole vault (7'8.5"/2.35m).

Next weekend, the Bears will compete at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University.
