Andrews, McNamara, Madden Lead Women’s Outdoor Track & Field at BSU Bears Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Seniors Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) and Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.) and junior Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) each won events to lead the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational on Saturday at Swenson Field.

Andrews placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.72 seconds, while McNamara captured top honors in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 10.5 inches (5.14m). Madden was the first runner to cross the finish line in the 10,000-meter run as she posted a time of 38:46.61.

McNamara also finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.22 seconds, while the Bears' 4x400-meter squad featuring Andrews, juniors Jessica Haywood (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.), and sophomore Sansha Alexis (Brockton, Mass.) placed second with a time of 4:23.97.

Senior Molly McNamara (Hulls, Mass.) recorded a mark of 34 feet, three inches to place third in the triple jump, while junior Allison Beaudoin (Sturbridge, Mass.) placed third in the javelin with a distance of 116 feet, eight inches (35.57m)

Sophomore Jamelah Foster (Fall River, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' top five place winners as she finished fourth in the discus throw with a toss of 113 feet, five inches (34.58m).

On Friday afternoon, senior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Mass.) placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, 2.25 inches (12.55m).

The Bears finished second in the team standings with 86 points. Division I Northeastern University won the team title with 126 points, while Roger Williams University placed third with 84 points.

Gilbreath and Madden qualified for both the Division III New England Championships and the NEICAAA Championships in their respective events. Foster and Beaudoin quaified for DIII New Englands in the discus and javelin, respectively.

Next weekend, the Bears will compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
