Jayci Andrews Captures New England Title, Breaks Hurdles Mark at DIII New Englands

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) captured the New England title and broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday at the Division III New England Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Bowdoin College.

Andrews posted a preliminary time of 8.78 seconds and then recorded a finals time of 8.74 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles title. She eclipsed her previous school mark of 8.80 seconds set earlier this season at the NEICAAA Championships.

Andrews, who also broke the Bowdoin facility record in the event, currently ranks second in all of Division III in the hurdles.

The Bears finished 17th in the team standings at the two-day championship meet with 12 points. On Friday evening, BSU junior Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) garnered All-New England honors with a seventh-place finish in the 5,000-meter run.

Tomorrow, senior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) will toss the shot put at the BU Last Chance Invitational. Next weekend, select members of the BSU women's track & field team will compete at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet.
