MASCAC Indoor Track & Field Preseason Polls Announced

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletics Conference (MASCAC) Indoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches polls have been released.

On the men's side, Bridgewater State University and Worcester State University are the preseason favorites to win the MASCAC indoor championship meet which will take place on Saturday, February 10th in conjunction with the New England Alliance Championships. The Bears and the Lancers both received eight points in the poll including two first-place votes each.

The Bears finished fourth at the 2017 MASCAC Championships with two individual titles and a relay. Sophomore Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) was a dual winner in the 400-meter dash as well as the 4x200-meter relay.

On the women's side, Worcester State edged Bridgewater State as the preseason favorite. The Lancers tallied eight points with a pair of first-place votes, while the Bears recorded seven points and one top vote.

Last season, the Bears placed second at the MASCAC indoor championships with ten individual titles and two relay crowns. Junior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) was a five-time winner at the meet despite battling through an injury as she placed first in the long jump, 55-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 4x200-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay.

The BSU men's & women's indoor track & field teams open the 2017-2018 season on Saturday (Dec. 2) as the two teams compete at the 6th Annual UMass Boston Indoor Open held at the Reggie Lewis Center.
