Andrews, Gilbreath Headed to NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University juniors Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) and Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) will be competing at the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships next week in Wisconsin.

The national championship meet will be held from Thursday, May 24th through Saturday, May 26th at the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Andrews is seeded sixth in the 100-meter hurdles and 11th in the 400-meter hurdles. She recorded her qualifying and BSU school-record time of 14.27 seconds in the 100 hurdles at the MIT Last Chance Qualifier on May 17th. Andrews also posted her qualifying and school-record time of 1:01.37 in the 400 hurdles at the NEICAAA Championships on May 11th.

Gilbreath, who is making her first appearance in the NCAA Track & Field Championships, is seeded 16th in the shot put. She recorded her qualifying and BSU school-record mark of 44 feet, 10.25 inches (13.67) at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships on April 28th.

Andrews is making her fourth appearance at an NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship meet and second at the outdoor championships. As a freshman in 2016, she placed 11th in the 400-meter dash at the indoor championships and tenth in the 400 at the outdoor championships. This past March, Andrews finished 17th in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2018 indoor championships.

Andrews currently holds eight individual school records at Bridgewater State (along with three relay marks). She is the Bears indoor record holder in the 55-meter hurdles (8.50), 60-meter hurdles (8.86), long jump (17'6.75"), 200-meter dash (26.37) and 400-meter dash (57.14), as well as the outdoor record holder in the 100-meter hurdles (14.27), 400-meter hurdles (1:01.37) and 400-meter dash (55.76).

For each women's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.

The preliminary race of the 400-meter hurdles is slated to take place on Thursday afternoon at 4:15 PM (EDT) with the finals scheduled for Saturday at 3:25 PM (EDT). The preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles will take place at approximately 4:30 PM (EDT) on Friday afternoon with the finals on Saturday at 2:00 PM (EDT). The shot put is expected to get underway on Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM (EDT).
