Women's Track & Field Finishes 3rd at MASCAC Championships

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's track & field team competed at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships held on Saturday at Swenson Field.

The Bears placed third in the MASCAC standings with 145 points and fourth in the Alliance standings with 81 points.

Junior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) broke her own school record and captured both the MASCAC and Alliance individual championships in the shot put. Gilbreath posted a distance of 44 feet, 10.25 inches (13.67m) as she eclipsed her previous mark of 43 feet, 2.5 inches (13.17m) set two weeks ago at the Jerry Gravel Classic.

Gilbreath also won the MASCAC title in the hammer throw with a season-best toss of 143 feet, two inches (43.63m).

Junior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) won both the MASCAC and Alliance individual championships in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 1:02.77.

Andrews also added a MASCAC title in the long jump with a season-best leap of 17 feet, 5.25 inches (5.31m).

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU outdoor track & field teams will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT.
