Women's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Campaign at Tufts Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team opened the 2018 campaign on Saturday at the non-scoring Tufts Snowflake Classic held at the Dussault Track & Field Complex.

Junior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) captured top honors in the 100-meter hurdles with a finals time of 15.05 seconds (14.91 prelim). Andrews also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 2.75 inches (5.25m). She qualified for the Division III New England Championships in both events.

Sophomore Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) was the third runner to cross the finish line in the 10,000-meter run. Madden posted a DIII New England qualifying time of 38:43.24.

Sophomore Molly Dewar (Grafton, Mass.) placed fourth in both the discus and the hammer throw. Dewar recorded a mark of 120 feet, ten inches (36.82m) in the discus and tossed the hammer 132 feet, ten inches (40.48m). Junior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) added  fourth-place performance in the shot put with a put of 39 feet, ten inches (12.14m). Dewar qualified for DIII New Englands in the discus, while Gilbreath qualified in the shot.

Junior Patricia Healion (Medford, Mass.) finished fifth in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying height of five feet, 0.5 inches (1.54m).

Gilbreath also placed seventh in the hammer throw (126'6"/38.56m), while junior Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.) finished seventh in the triple jump (33'2"/10.11m) to round out the Bears' top ten performers.

Next weekend, the Bears will compete in the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
