Three Bears Compete at Tufts Final Qualifying Meet

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Three members of the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team competed at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet on Saturday at the Gantcher Center.

Junior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) placed third in the shot put with a season-best toss of 43 feet, 3.25 inches (13.19m).

Junior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) placed fifth in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.96 seconds. Andrews also posted a preliminary time of 8.89 seconds which was just 3/100 of a second off her own school record of 8.86 seconds set two weeks ago at the Division III New England Championships.

Senior Kristyn Grattan (Hanover, Mass.) finished 11th in the mile with a time of 5:20.91.

Andrews is currently tied for fifth in all of Division III in the hurdles. The top 17 student-athletes in the event qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships which will take place next Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
