Women’s Track & Field Places 2nd at MASCAC Indoor Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team placed second at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships held in conjunction with the New England Alliance Championships on Saturday at the Providence Career & Technical Academy.

The Bears recorded 148 points to finish behind conference champion Westfield State University (234 pts.). Worcester State University (110 pts.) rounded out the top three in the MASCAC standings.

Bridgewater finished fourth in the New England Alliance results with 92 points. Westfield State also won the Alliance title with 128 points. The University of Southern Maine (101.5 pts.) placed second, while UMass Boston (94 pts.) finished third.

Junior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) won both the MASCAC and New England Alliance titles in the shot put with a toss of 42 feet, 3.25 inches (12.88m). Gilbreath also captured the MASCAC championship in the weight throw with a distance of 46 feet, four inches (14.12m). She placed fourth in the Alliance for the weight throw.

Sophomore Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) was the top runner at the meet in the 600-meter run as she posted a time of 1:40.95 to win both the MASCAC and Alliance individual championships.

Junior Emily Guyon (Hopedale, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' MASCAC champions as she posted a time of 3:14.16 in the 1,000-meter run. Guyon finished fifth in the Alliance results.

Junior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles as she posted a time 8.92 seconds. Andrews, who placed second in the MASCAC and Alliance in the event, eclipsed her previous mark of 8.93 seconds set two weeks ago at the Wheaton Invitational.

Next Saturday, qualifying members of the BSU women's indoor track & field team will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield College.
