Andrews Sets 60-Meter Hurdles Mark at UMass Boston Indoor Open

ROXBURY, Mass. -- Junior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles to lead the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team at the season-opening 6th Annual UMass Boston Indoor Open held on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Andrews posted a time of 9.06 seconds in the hurdles to place second in the event. She eclipsed her previous BSU indoor mark of 9.08 seconds set last season. Andrews also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash (26.42) as she was just 5/100 of a second off her own program mark of 26.37 seconds.

Andrews qualified for the Division III New England Championship in both events as well as the NEICAAA Championships in the hurdles.

The Bears' foursome of Andrews, sophomore Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) and juniors Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.) and Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.) placed third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:14.95.

Miller also finished third in the 500-meter dash (1:21.56), while Molly McNamara placed sixth in the triple jump (33'10.75"/10.33m).

Senior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) placed second in the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, 0.5 inches (12.20m). Gilbreath, who was making her BSU debut, qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the event.

Sophomore Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) added a third-place showing in the 3,000-meter run (11:10.86).

Next Saturday, the Bears will compete at the RIC Invitational.
