Sydney Bennett Named MASCAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Sydney Bennett has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Bennett broke the BSU outdoor shot put record at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational with a toss of 42 feet, 11.75 inches (13.10m). The North Attleboro, Massachusetts product captured top honors in the event as she bettered her own previous school mark of 42 feet, four inches (12.90m) set back in 2015 at the ECSU Invitational.

Bennett, who qualified for the both the Division III New England Championships and the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships in the shot put, currently ranks seventh in all of Division III in the event.

This marks the sixth MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week accolade for Bennett this academic year. She also garnered the honor five times during the indoor campaign.

The BSU women's outdoor track & field team will be back in action on Saturday when the Bears compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
