Richner in 1st Place After Day One of DIII New England Heptathlon

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) is in first place in the heptathlon after four events at the 2017 Division III New England Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Williams College on Friday.

Richner has 2,811 points through the first four events as she leads all the heptathletes. She posted a score of 842 points in the high jump as she tied her own school record with a leap of five feet, 6.5 inches (1.69m).

Richner also recorded 722 points in the 100-meter hurdles (15.94), 685 points in the 200-meter dash (27.33) and 562 points in the shot put (34'5.5"/10.50m). 

Richner tied for first in the high jump and placed second in the shot put, third in the 200 and sixth in the hurdles.

Sophomore Patricia Healion (Medford, Mass.) is currently in 17th place in the heptathlon. Healion recorded a score of 632 points in the high jump (4'11.5"/1.51m), 553 points in the 200 (29.01), 370 points in the hurdles (19.22) and 341 points in the shot put (23'3.25"/7.09m).

Senior Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) checked in with a tenth place performance in the hammer throw (140'10"/42.93m), while classmate Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) finished 13th in the prelimaries of the 100-meter dash (12.88).
