Women's Track & Field Places 2nd at MASCAC Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team placed second at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships hosted by Westfield State University on Saturday.

The Bears notched 178 team points as they finished by conference champion Westfield State University. Westfield amassed 261 points. 

Five different BSU student-athletes captured MASCAC individual titles.

Freshman Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) won the conference title with season-best times in both the 400-meter dash (58.41) and the 200-meter dash (26.06), while senior Kristyn Grattan (Hanover, Mass.) garnered top MASCAC honors in the 800-meter run with a career-best time of 2:21.84.

Senior Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) tied for first place among MASCAC competitors in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 0.25 inches (1.53m).

Sophomore Ellie Bucknell (New Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Molly Dewar (Grafton, Mass.) placed first in both the MASCAC and New England Alliance standings in their respective events. Bucknell won the javelin with a career-best toss of 127 feet, nine inches (38.93m), while Dewar recorded the top throw in the discus with a mark of 117 feet, eight inches (35.86m).

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay squad featuring senior Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.), sophomore Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.), senior Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) and Miller garnered the conference title with a time of 4:06.01.

The Bears finished third in the New England Alliance standings with 92.95 points. University of Southern Maine placed first with 166.75 points followed by the Westfield State with 126.6 points.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU women's outdoor track & field team will compete at the Division III New England Champions hosted by Williams College.
