Women's Track & Field Competes at Jerry Gravel Classic

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team competed at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University on Saturday.

The Bears placed second in the team standings with 137 points.

Senior Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.), freshman Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.), sophomore Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.) and senior Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) captured top honors in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:08.01.

McNamara also placed first in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 35 feet, three inches (10.74m). She qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the event.

Seniors Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) and Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) also won individual events for the Bears. Richner recorded a season-best mark of five feet, five inches (1.65m) in the high jump, while O'Sullivan posted a career-best distance of 151 feet, three inches (46.11m) in the hammer throw.

Richner, who qualified for the NEICAAA Championships, is currently tied for 16th in all of Division III in the high jump.

Next Friday, the Bears will compete at the 10th Annual Eastern Invitational hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University. Several members of the team will be competing at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University on Friday and Saturday.
