Women's Track & Field Competes at Yellow Jacket Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team competed at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by AIC on Saturday.

Senior Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) captured top honors in the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, five inches (12.32m).

Senior Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) placed second in the javelin with a career-best distance of 130 feet, eight inches (39.83m). Sophomore Ellie Bucknell (New Bedford, Mass.) added a seventh place finish in the javelin (119'4"/36.38m).

Freshman Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.46.

Senior Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) place fifth in the high jump with a leap of five feet, one inch (1.55m).

The Bears' 4x100-meter relay squad featuring Miller, Richner, sophomore Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.) and senior Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) finished sixth in the event with a time of 51.24 seconds. 

Freshman Jordan Sharpe (North Attleboro, Mass.) and senior Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' top performers at the meet. Sharpe placed fifth in the long jump (16'1"/4.90m), while O'Sullivan finished sixth in the hammer throw with a career-best heave of 145 feet, one inch (44.22m).

Bridgewater placed seventh out of 18 teams at the meet with 41.5 points.

Bennett, Maymon, Bucknell, Miller, Richner, Sharpe and O'Sullivan all recorded Division III New England Championships qualifying marks or times. Maymon also qualified for the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships in the javelin.

Next Saturday, the BSU women's outdoor track & field team will compete at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University.
