Bennett Sets Shot Put Mark at Tufts Final Qualifying Meet

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Three members of the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team competed at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet on Saturday at the Gantcher Center.

Senior Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) eclipsed her own school record in the shot put for the fifth time this season. Bennett captured top honors at the meet with a toss of 44 feet, six inches (13.56m) as she broke her previous mark of 44 feet (13.41m) set earlier this season at the Division III New England Championships.

Senior Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) finished tenth in the weight throw (44'11.75"/13.71) and 11th in the shot put (34'9"/10.59m), while classmate Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) finished 11th in the weight throw (44'5.5"/13.55m).

Next week, (March 10th & 11th), the NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships which take place at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. The top 17 declared student-athletes in each individual event will compete at the national championship meet.

BSU senior Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) is currently tied for 11th nationally in the high jump, while Bennett is 21st in the shot put.
