Bennett Captures Shot Put Title to Lead BSU Women’s Track & Field at DIII New England Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) captured the New England title and broke her own school record in the shot put to lead the BSU women's indoor track & field team at the Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT on Saturday.

Bennett posted a mark of 44 feet (13.41m) to place first at the meet and eclipse her previous school standard of 43 feet, 4.5 inches (13.22m) set earlier this season at the Tufts Stampede. Bennett currently ranks 14th in all of Division III in the shot put.

Seniors Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) and Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) also garnered All-New England honors for Bridgewater State. O'Sullivan placed seventh in the weight throw (48'5.25"/14.76m), while Richner finished eighth in the high jump (5'1.25"/1.56m).

The Bears finished tied for 17th in the team standings with 13 points.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU women's indoor track & field team will compete at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships which will take place at the Reggie Lewis Center.
