Women's Outdoor Track & Field Places 2nd at MASCAC Championships

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team finished second at the the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.

The Bears posted a score of 222 points as they finished behind MASCAC champion Westfield State University (246 pts.).

Junior Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) and freshman Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) both captured MASCAC individual titles in two individual events and ran a leg on a pair of conference champion relay teams.

Perry won both the 100-meter dash (12.84) and the 200-meter dash (26.45), while Andrews placed first in the 400-meter dash (56.66) and the long jump (17'8.75"/5.40m). Andrews broke BSU Hall of Famer Cindy Lindh's 34-year old school outdoor record in the long jump. Lindh jumped 17 feet, 8.5 inches back in 1982.

Perry and Andrews each ran a leg on the Bears' record-setting 4x100-meter squad along with junior Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) and freshman Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.). The foursome recorded a time of 48.61 seconds as they eclipsed the previous BSU program mark of 49.58 seconds set earlier this season.

Perry, Andrews and juniors Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) and Abbie Pustis (Andover, Mass.) garnered the MASCAC title in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:02.16.

Richner won both the MASCAC and New England Alliance titles in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 3.75 inches (1.62m).

Seniors Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) and Rachel Ducharme (North Attleboro, Mass.) also captured MASCAC and New England Alliance titles in their respective events. Poto posted a time of 17:49.91 in the 5,000-meter run, while Ducharme recorded a time of 40:20.52 in the 10,000-meter run.

The Bears finished third in the New England Alliance standings with a score of 127 points.

Next weekend, the BSU women's outdoor track & field team will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield College.
