Mauro Breaks Own Mark at BU Invitational

BU Valentine Invitational Results | Smith College Tartan Invitational Results 

BOSTON, Mass. -- Senior distance runner Nicole Mauro (Medfield, MA) shaved 33 seconds off her previous best time in the 5000-meter run (18:10.45) as she notched an impressive 34th place victory at Boston University's Valentine Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Mauro broke her own record that was set two weeks ago at the Wesleyan Invitational in the 5,000-meters with a time of 18:43.05.

While Mauro competed in Boston, the rest of the women's indoor track and field team traveled to Smith College's Tartan Invitational this past Saturday.

Bridgewater State College finished 15th out of the 17 teams in attendance scoring a total of 13 points in their fifth meet of the season.

Freshman Brittany Page (Winthrop, MA) led the way garnering a 5th place finish in the weight throw (33-02.50) and a 12th place finish in the shot put (30-06.25).

Other finishers for the Bears at Tufts included freshman Jessica Edinger's (Sutton, MA) eighth place finish in the 600-meter run (1.55.61) and classmate Carrissa Penney's (Gardner, MA) seventh place finish in the 1000-meter run (3:19.50).

In relay action, the Bridgewater State College's distance medley relay team finished in third place with a time of 15:17.62.

The Bears will be back in action at the MASCAC Championships this Saturday at 1 p.m.
