Women's Tennis Falls to RIC in Little East Semifinals, 5-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—No. 1-seeded Rhode Island College advanced to the finals of the 2019 Little East Conference Women's Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 semifinal win over No. 5-seeded Bridgewater State iUniversity on Friday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Center.

The host Anchorwomen (14-1) will now advance to the championships game and will entertain No. 2-seeded UMass Boston on Sunday afternoon at one. The visiting Bears end the season with an overall record of 7-9.

RIC's sophomore duo of Michaela Burr (Westerly, R.I.) and Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, R.I.) earned an 8-2 win at third doubles, while freshman Jenna Lisi (Cranston, R.I.) and junior Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, R.I.) picked up an 8-3 victory at number one. The Anchorwomen's junior duo of Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) and Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, R.I.) gave the hosts a 3-0 lead after doubles play with an 8-4 decision at the top flight.

Raskob cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 straight set decision at No. 4 singles to pull RIC within a point of clinching the match. Lisi then posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles to record the fifth and deciding point and send RIC into the finals for the fourth straight season.

The remaining four singles flights were left unfinished. BSU senior Emma Mills (Westport, Mass.) was the only Bear leading in her singles flight. Mill won her first set at third singles, 6-3, and held a 3-2 advantage in the second set.
