Women's Tennis Defeats UMass Dartmouth, 6-3, in Regular Season Finale

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Four different players combined for singles and doubles triumphs as the Bridgewater State University women's tennis team clinched a berth in the Little East Conference Tournament with a 6-3 victory over UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at the Dartmouth Indoor Tennis Club. The match marked the regular season finale for both teams.

Bridgewater State wraps up regular season play with an overall record of 6-8 with a 5-4 mark in the Little East. The Bears will travel to fourth-seeded Worcester State University on uesday afternoon for a Little East Tournament first round match with the Lancers. 

Graduate student Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.), seniors Emma Mills (Westport, Mass.) and Angelique Gray (Barnstable, Mass.) and junior Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) accounted for all six points in the contest for the visiting Bears as the quartet won their respective singles matches in straight sets. Sweeney and Mills teamed up for an 8-1 win at the number two doubles spot for Bridgewater State, which received an 8-3 triumph at the number three position from the tandem of Tarantino and Gray.

Freshman Lauren Morgart (Weston, Mass.) closed out her rookie campaign with wins in singles and doubles action in the season-ending setback for the host Corsairs (7-8, 3-6 LEC), as she notched a straight set win at number one singles and teamed up with senior Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) for an 8-3 victory at the top doubles spot. Junior Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) provided UMass Dartmouth's other point of the match with a three-set triumph at number four singles, including a 7-6 (7-4) win in the deciding set.
