Women's Tennis Drops 9-0 Decision to RIC

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Rhode Island College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 Little East Conference victory over Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The two-time defending conference champion Anchorwomen improve to 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in the LEC. The Bears fall to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

RIC captured all three doubles matches and swept the six singles flights.

Sophomore Casey Burns (Westbrook, Conn.) won the battle of the top flight singles players as she posted a 6-0, 6-1 straight set decision. Burns also teamed with freshman Jenna Lisi (Cranston, R.I.) for an 8-0 triumph at number one doubles.

Lisi battled to a tough 7-5, 6-4 win at the second singles flight.

The Anchorwomen also received straight set victories from junior Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.), junior Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, R.I.), junior Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, Mass.) and sophomore Clara Siegmund (Pomfret, Conn.) at the third through sixth flights, respectively.

Zangari and Raskob posted an 8-1 win at second doubles, while Siegmund and junior Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, R.I.) earned an 8-3 decision at the third doubles flight.

Little East play continues for both teams on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30. The Bears travel to Salem State University, while the Anchorwomen head to UMass Dartmouth.
