Women's Tennis Falls to Johnson & Wales, 6-3

RIVERSIDE, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women's tennis team edged visiting Bridgewater State University, 6-3, in a tightly contested non-conference match held on Tuesday at Centre Court.

The host Wildcats remain unbeaten on the season as they improve to 4-0, while the Bears fall to 0-3.

Johnson & Wales captured two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles flights to record the win. Four of the six single matches were decided by super tie-breakers.

Freshman Emily Hill (Wilmington, Mass.) and sophomore Kourtney Moore (Roswell, Ga.) teamed up for an 8-4 decision at second doubles for the Wildcats, while freshman Sydney Constantinidi (North Branford, Conn.) and junior Katherine Ledesma (Coral Springs, Fla.) paired up for a tough 8-6 victory at the third flight.

The Bears' doubles tandem of freshman Sailor Nordstrom (New Bedford, Mass.) and senior Emma Mills (Westport, Mass.) battled to an 8-6 triumph at the top flight.

Moore cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 straight set win at third singles to extend the Wildcats' lead to 3-1.

BSU grad student Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.) won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, at number six singles to close the gap to 3-2.

Junior Claire Parry (Westport, Conn.) and Nordstrom split the first two sets, 6-0, 4-6, in the battle of the top-flight singles players before Parry won the super tie-breaker, 10-8, to give the hosts a 4-2 advantage. Hill then secured the fifth and deciding point at the second flight as she battled back from a set down and won in a super tie-breaker, 3-6, 6-1, 12-10.

BSU senior Angelique Gray (Barnstable, Mass.) picked up the Bears' third point at number five as she roared back from a set down to win the second set in a tie-breaker and the flight in a super tie-breaker, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-6.

Sophomore Drew Bobey (Charleston, S.C.) closed out the scoring for the Wildcats at number four. Bobey won the first set, 6-4, dropped the second, 3-6, and posted a tough 11-9 decision in the super tie-breaker.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Suffolk University on Thursday evening for a 6:30 match with the Rams. The Wildcats entertain the University of Saint Joseph in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Saturday afternoon at one.
