PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Plymouth State University cruised to an 8-1 win over visiting Bridgewater State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) match on Sunday afternoon at the Holderness School Tennis Courts. The match marked the regular season finale for both teams.

The host Panthers improve to 11-2 with their ninth straight win and 8-1 in the Little East. PSU is locked into the number two seed for next week's Little East Tournament and receives a bye to Friday's semifinal match.

Bridgewater State falls to 7-8 on the season and 4-5 in conference play. The Bears await the results of additional conference matches to determine their postseason fate.

Plymouth State swept the three doubles matches and captured five of the six singles flights to come away with the conference victory.

Sophomores Sage Winter (New Castle, N.H.) and Maggie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) teamed for an 8-3 win at first doubles, while sophomore Jenna Sundquist (Monument Beach, Mass.) and Kerstin Venincasa (Sutton, Mass.) earned an 8-4 triumph at number three. Seniors Irene Kigugu (Concord, N.H.) and Megan Wheeler (Manchester, N.H.) paired up for an 8-5 win at the second flight to complete the doubles sweep.

Winter (6-3, 6-0), Kigugu (6-2, 6-4) and Wheeler (6-2, 6-1) all earned straight set wins in singles play for the Panthers at the first, third and sixth flights, respectively. McCarthy (3-6, 6-3, 10-6) and Venincasa (5-7, 6-0, 10-4) both battled back from a set down at the second and fifth flights.

BSU junior Angelique Gray (Osterville, Mass.) picked up the Bears' lone point of the match with a 6-2, 6-2 straight set victory at number four singles.
