Women's Tennis Downs Castleton, 7-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted a 7-2 victory over visiting Castleton University in a Little East Conference (LEC) match on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The host Bears improve to 6-7 on the season and 4-3 in the Little East, while the Spartans fall to 3-8 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

Bridgewater captured two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles flights.

In doubles play for the Bears, Junior Emma Mills (Westport, Mass.) and sophomore Madison Butkus (Attleboro, Mass.) paired up for an 8-0 win at the second flight, while sophomore Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.) notched an 8-0 triumph at number three.

Junior Megan Nadler (Rutland, Vt.) teamed up with senior Kirsten Kruk (Clifton Park, N.Y.) tallied the Spartans' lone double point with an 8-6 decision at the top spot. Nadler also earned a 6-3, 6-4 straight set victory in the battle of the number one singles players.

Sweeney, senior Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.), junior Angelique Gray (Osterville, Mass.), Rosa and Butkus all posted straight sets singles win for the Bears at the second through sixth flights, respectively.

The Little East schedule continues for both teams on Wednesday afternoon at three. The Bears host Salem State University while the Spartans travel to UMass Boston.

Notes: Butkus is a perfect 3-0 in singles play since cracking the starting lineup...Tarantino, Gray and Rosa are all 5-2 in Little East singles competition this season....Sweeney and Rosa have teamed up for a 10-2 doubles record in 2018 with a 6-1 mark versus LEC opponents.
