DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The UMass Dartmouth women's tennis team edged visiting Bridgewater State University, 5-4, in a Little East Conference (LEC) match on Wednesday afternoon at the UMD Courts.

Senior Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, Mass.) and junior Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) each collected key singles wins and teamed up for a triumph at number one doubles to lead the host Corsairs (6-4, 4-3 LEC).

After dropping two of the three doubles outings, the host Corsairs stormed back to take four of the six singles matches in straight sets, as junior Monika Reining (Linsengericht, Germany) garnered the decisive fifth point at the number five spot after Lahaie, Fastino and sophomore Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) claimed triumphs at their respective one, two and four positions in the lineup. Lahaie and Fastino improved to 8-2 in doubles action with an 8-5 win for UMass Dartmouth, which has won three straight regular season match-ups by the same 5-4 margin in the series between the two schools.

Sophomore Madison Butkus (Attleboro, Mass.) was a winner in singles and doubles play in the setback for the visiting Bears (5-6, 3-3 LEC), as she collected a three-set victory at number six singles after teaming up with junior Emma Mills (Westport, Mass.) for an 8-2 triumph at number two doubles. Butkus was making her collegiate debut in singles competition.

Senior Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.) posted a straight-set win at number three singles for Bridgewater State, whose other point came in an 8-4 decision from sophomore Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.) at the number three doubles spot.
