Women's Tennis Downs Worcester State, 7-2

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team recorded a 7-2 victory over Little East Conference rival Worcester State University on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears improve to 9-4 on the season and 6-1 in the Little East with their fifth straight win, while the host Lancers fall to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

Bridgewater captured two out of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles flight.

The Bears received doubles win from the senior tandems of Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) and Amanda Strickland (Plymouth, Mass.) at number one, 8-6, and Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) and Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) at the second flight, 8-1.

The Lancers' doubles pairing of senior Alexis Silk (Greenfield, Mass.) and freshman Dominique Alves (Ludlow, Mass.) posted a 9-7 decision at the third flight.

In singles play, Silva battled back from a set down to record a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 triumph at the top spot. The Bears also picked up straight set singles wins by Roman, Strickland, sophomore Angelique Gray (Osterville, Mass.) and freshman Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) at the second (6-1, 6-0), fourth (6-1, 6-1), fifth (6-1, 6-4) and sixth (6-2, 6-2) flights, respectively.

Alves notched the Lancers' lone singles point with a 6-0, 7-5 victory at number three.

The Little East schedule continues for Bridgewater State on Tuesday afternoon when the Bears host the unbeaten Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College at three. Worcester State travels to Clark University on Tuesday afternoon for a four o'clock non-conference match with the Cougars.

Notes: Roman is 35-2 all-time in singles competition and 36-2 in doubles play against Little East opponents. She has won 28 straight singles matches versus Little East opponents.
