Women's Tennis Falls to Endicott, 9-0, in Season Opener

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team opened the 2017 season with a 9-0 non-conference victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Monday afternoon at the South Campus Tennis Courts.

Junior Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.), junior Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.), freshman Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.), and junior Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) highlighted the Gulls' efforts with two wins apiece.

Barnett and Fitzgibbons teamed up for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, while also earning wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Barnett won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, while Fitzgibbons battled to a tough 6-4, 6-3 straight set decision over BSU senior Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.). Meanwhile, Hartman notched an 8-4 triumph at No. 1 doubles with senior teammate Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) and a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.

Rahr rounded out the group with an 8-5 triumph at No. 3 doubles with freshman teammate Clare O'Keefe (Lutz, Fla.), in addition to her victory at No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-0).

Endicott (1-0) will travel to Nichols College on Thursday to take on the defending Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) champions at 4:00 PM. Bridgewater State (0-1) opens Little East Conference play at home on Saturday at noon against UMass Boston.
