BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Bridgewater State University dropped a 6-0 decision to Colby-Sawyer College in the opening round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament on Friday afternoon at Pickard Courts on the campus of Bowdoin College.
The Bears end the season with an overall record of 12-6. The Chargers (17-5) advance to the second round and will take on host Bowdoin on Saturday at noon.
Colby-Sawyer led 3-0 after doubles play as the Chargers swept all three doubles matches. Ashley Woodside and Maddy Gemerek teamed up for an 8-0 win at the top spot, while Christine Hill and Lauren Blanchard posted a similar result at number three. Evelyn Miller and Aislinn O'Connor earned the final point at the second flight with an 8-2 result.
O'Connor cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 straight set win at fourth flight singles to give the Chargers a 4-0 lead.
Woodside and Blanchard finished simultaneously on courts one and five, respectively, for the rare 6-0 final score. Woodside posted a 6-1, 6-0 decision, while Blanchard also won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.
Colby-Sawyer was also up a set at third and sixth singles when the match ended.
The closest match of the day was at the second singles flight as Miller led BSU's Bojana Roman in the first set, 6-5.
