Women's Tennis Notches 7-2 Win over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted a 7-2 victory over Salem State University on Saturday afternoon at the Central Campus Courts.

Bridgewater improve to 12-5 on the season, while host Salem slips to 3-12.

The Bears were competing in their first head-to-head match since they captured the Little East Conference Tournament championship with a 5-4 win over Rhode Island College back on October 29th.

Bridgewater swept all three doubles matches and won four out of six singles flights.

Junior Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) teamed with classmate Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) for an 8-5 win at second doubles.

Roman also cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at second singles, while Scagnelli also won easily in straight sets, at 6-1, 6-0, at the third flight.

Juniors Alisha Silva (Taunton, Nass.) and Amanda Strickland (Plymouth, Mass.) recorded an 8-6 decision at number one doubles, The Bears' third flight team of sophomore Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshman Angelique Gray (Osterville, Mass.) eanred an 8-6 win.

Strickland battled back from a set down to post 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 win at fourth singles, while Tarantino cruised to a  6-1, 6-1 triumph at number six.

The Bears are off until the NCAA Division III Tournament. Tournament pairings will be announced on Monday, May 8th.
