Women's Tennis Downs Salem State, 8-0

SALEM, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team cruised to an 8-0 Little East Conference victory over Salem State University on Friday afternoon at the SSU Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 5-3 on the season and 4-1 in the Little East, while the host Vikings fall to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Bridgewater swept all three doubles matches and captured five singles flights to earn the win. The top flight singles match was knotted at one set apiece when rain halted play.

In doubles play, juniors Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) and Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) breezed to an 8-0 win at the second flight, while sophomore Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshman Angelique Gray (Osterville, Mass.) teamed for an 8-5 victory at number three. The Bears' top flight tandem of juniors Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) and Amanda Strickland (Plymouth, Mass.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win.

Roman, Scagnelli, Strickland, Tarantino and Gray all won in straight sets at the second through sixth singles flights, respectively.

At first singles (before the rain arrived), Silva dropped the opening set, 7-5, before rallying for a 7-5 win in the second set.

The Bears' Little East match on Saturday against Worcester State University has been postponed due to the expected rainy weather. The match has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 6th at 3:00 PM. In upcoming action, Bridgewater will travel to Rhode Island College next Tuesday afternoon for a 3:30 conference match with the Anchorwomen.
