Women's Tennis Posts 5-0 Win over Worcester State in Little East Quarterfinals

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2014 Little East Conference Tournament as the third-seeded Bears posted a 5-0 victory over #6 Worcester State University in first round action on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 9-3 on the season and will travel to #2 seed Rhode Island College next Tuesday afternoon (2:00) for a semifinal round match with the Anchorwomen.  The visiting Lancers wrap up the 2014 campaign with an overall mark of 7-6.

The Bears swept all three doubles flights to take the 3-0 lead after doubles play.  Senior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) and freshman Alisha Silva (East Taunton, Mass.) teamed for an 8-5 triumph at the first flight, while junior Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and freshman Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) won 8-3 at the second spot.  Senior Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) and freshman Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) completed the sweep with an 8-4 decision at number three.

Roman breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 straight set victory at number six singles to give BSU the 4-0 advantage.  Flynn then clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 straight set win at fourth flight singles.

The remaining four singles matches were left unfinished with BSU up a set in three of the four flights.  The match was stopped as soon as the Bears recorded the fifth point.
