Women's Tennis Posts 7-2 Little East Win at UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team earned a 7-2 Little East Conference victory over host UMass Boston on Friday afternoon at the Boston College High School Tennis Courts.

With Friday's loss the Beacons closed out their 2014 campaign with a 3-9 record overall and a 1-7 mark in the Little East. The Bears, who sit tied for second in the conference standings, improved to 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in the LEC.

The Bears led 2-1 after doubles play.  Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) teamed with Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) for an 8-1 victory at the second flight, while Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) and Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) posted an 8-1 win at the third spot.

The duo of Martina Daelli (Florence, Italy) and Kristy Garcia (Miami, Fla.) earned the lone doubles point for the UMass with an 8-4 triumph at number one. Garcia also picked up a point in singles competition with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the top flight.

Vautrin, Alisha Silva (East Taunton, Mass.), Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) and Roman all won in straight sets for the Bears at the second, third, fourth and sixth flights, respectively.

Eramo split the first two sets, 6-2, 5-7, at fifth singles before posting a 10-5 decision in the super tie-breaker.  She remains unbeaten in single play with a perfect 7-0 mark.

The Bears will return to action tomorrow when they face the University of Southern Maine in a conference match.  They will then complete their match with Rhode Island College, which is currently deadlocked at 4-4, on Monday with a potential Little East Tournament first-round bye on the line.
