Women's Tennis Downs Worcester State, 7-2, in Little East Match

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Little East Conference play as the Bears posted a 7-2 victory over visiting Worcester State University on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

With the win, Bridgewater improves to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Little East.  The Bears, who have won three straight matches, swept all three doubles flights and four of the six singles .  The Lancers fall to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Senior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) and freshman Alisha Silva (East Taunton, Mass.) teamed for an 8-5 win at first doubles, while junior Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and senior Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) paired up for a 9-7 decision at the second flight.  The Bears' freshman tandem of Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) and Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) rounded out doubles play with an 8-6 triumph at the third spot.

In singles action, Vautrin, Silva, Eramo and Roman all won in straight set at the second, third, fifth and sixth flights, respectively.

Sophomore Shelby Jankins (West Brookfield, Mass.) won in straight sets at first singles for the Lancers, while freshman Faina Volf (Sharon, Mass.) battled back from a set down to win at the fourth flight, 2-6, 6-2, 10-4.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Rhode Island College on Wednesday afternoon for a 3:30 Little East Conference match with the Anchorwomen.  The Lancers head to LEC rival UMass Dartmouth on Thursday afternoon to take on the Corsairs at three.
