Women's Tennis Downs Suffolk, 7-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted a 7-2 non-conference victory over visiting Suffolk University on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears captured two of three double matches and five of six singles flights to improve to 2-0 on the young season.  The Rams remain winless with their third straight setback.

In singles play, junior Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass,), freshman Alisha Silva (East Taunton, Mass.), senior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.), junior Shannon Beloin (Forestdale, Mass.) and freshman Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) all won in straight sets at the second through sixth flights, respectively, for the Bears.

Vautrin and Flynn teamed up for an 8-3 win at second doubles, while Roman and fellow rookie Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) paired up for an 8-1 triumph at the third flight.

Sophomore Aidiana Sagyndykova (Almaty, Kazakhstahn) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at top flight singles to lead the way for the visiting Rams.  Sagyndykova also teamed with senior Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.) for a tough 9-7 win at first doubles.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater will compete at the Newport Grass Court Doubles Tournament on Saturday at one, while Suffolk entertains Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Simmons College on Wednesday, September 17th at 5:30.

Notes: Roman earned her first collegiate wins in both singles and double play, while Scagnelli picked up her first doubles victory.
