Women's Swimming & Diving Posts 138-65 Win over Elms

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team cruised to a 138-65 victory over visiting Elms College on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears (5-2) placed first in nine of the 12 events and also had two events that would have had winning times but were competed in as exhibitions.

Freshman Makayla Paquin (North Easton, Mass.) and seniors Haley Nolan (Lowell, Mass.), Jennifer Marmion (Waltham, Mass.) and Picabo Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as the foursome posted a time of 2:06.80.

Nolan, classmate Becca Foster (Billerica, Mass.), junior Mackenzie Coogan (Assonet, Mass.) and sophomore Allison Hunt (Norton, Mass.) were the first to touch the wall in the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.49) as they swam the event as an exhibition to close out the meet.

Hunt also captured top honors in both the 200 freestyle (2:10.38) and 100 freestyle (1:00.71), while Nolan placed first in the 500 freestyle (5:44.20).

Foster, Coogan and Paquin also won individual events. Foster in the 50 freestyle (27.36), Coogan in the 100 individual medley (1:08.29) and Paquin in the 50 backstroke (32.99).

Freshman Selin Marino (East Greenwich, R.I.) and junior Alexa Wilson (Centerville, Mass.) rounded out the Bears individual event winners. Marino placed first in the 1,000 freestyle (11:52.01), while Wilson won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 157.65 points.

Junior Adi Tobias (North Attleboro, Mass.) was the first to touch the wall in the 50 breaststroke (36.39) as she competed in the event as an exhibition.

The Bears are off until Saturday, January 19th (1:00 PM) when they host a tri-meet against Brandeis University and Keene State College.
