Women’s Swimming & Diving Wins BSU Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team won the BSU Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

Bridgewater State captured top honors in 11 of the 19 events and notched 779 team points to easily outdistance second place Norwich University (367 pts.).

The relay foursome featuring senior Haley Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) and juniors Adi Tobias (North Attleboro, Mass.), Mackenzie Coogan (Assonet, Mass.) and Megan Bonney (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:57.60).

Nolan, Coogan, Bonney and senior Danielle Souza (Mansfield, Mass.) closed out the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.02).

Nolan also won three individual events as she was the first to touch the wall in the 200 freestyle (2:04.64), 200 backstroke (2:20.77) and 500 freestyle (5:39.03). He times in the 200 free and 200 back were season-bests.

Souza posted a season-best time of 27.72 seconds to win the 50 butterfly. She also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06.60.

Coogan added a victory in the 50 freestyle (26.41).

Senior Julia Gagne (South Hadley, Mass.), sophomore Allison Hunt (Norton, Mass.)  and freshman Selin Marino (East Greenwich, R.I.) rounded out the Bears' individual event winners. Gagne won the 200 breaststroke (2:50.77), while Hunt placed first in the 200 individual medley (2:30.57) and Marino grabbed top honors in the 400 individual medley (5:16.66). All three recorded season-best times.

The BSU swimming & diving teams are off until Saturday, January 5th when the Bears host Elms College at 1:00 PM.
