Women's Swimming & Diving Sweeps Tri-Meet

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team swept a tri-meet with Eastern Connecticut State University and Regis College on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

The host Bears (2-0) posted a 171-89 win over Eastern Connecticut and recorded a 149-133 victory over Regis. Bridgewater also snapped an 11-meet losing streak against Eastern. The Bears' last win against the Warriors came on December 4th of 2002 (120-85).

Bridgewater won eight of the 16 events including both relays.

Seniors Haley Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) and Danielle Souza (Mansfield, Mass.), and juniors Megan Bonney (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and Adi Tobias (North Attleboro, Mass.) opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as the foursome posted a time of 1:58.38.

Nolan, Souza, Bonney and junior Mackenzie Coogan (Assonet, Mass.) posted a time of 1:46.16 in the 200 freestyle relay to close out the meet.

Souza added a pair of individual victories in the 100 butterfly (1:06.49) and 50 butterfly (28.50), while Coogan won both the 50 breaststroke (35.99) and 100 freestyle (57.73). Nolan was the first to touch the wall in the 1,000 freestyle (11:42.29).

Freshman Selin Marino (East Greenwich, R.I.) grabbed top honors in the 500 freestyle as she posted a time of 5:45.91.

Next Tuesday evening, the Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth to take on the Corsairs at six o'clock.
